What is CityAdapt?

CityAdapt promotes climate resilience in urban areas through the implementation of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) for adaptation. The project takes place in three cities in three Latin America and the Caribbean countries and five cities in four Asian countries.

CityAdapt strengthens the technical capacities of municipalities and citizens to analyze the impacts and vulnerabilities to climate change and identify appropriate nature-based solutions.

This project is funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF). In Latin America and the Caribbean, it is executed by the Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), together with the authorities environmental issues in each country (the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources – SEMARNAT of Mexico, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources – MARN of El Salvador and the Ministry of Water, Land, Environment and Climate Change – MWLECC of Jamaica), and the support of Euroclima +. In Asia-Pacific the project is executed by the Regional Office for Asia-Pacific of UNEP in partnership with UN-Habitat, and in coordination with the Gross National Happiness Commission (Bhutan), National Council for Sustainable Development (Cambodia), Department of Climate Change (Lao PDR) and Environmental Conservation Department (Myanmar).
